Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), the region’s first dedicated centre protecting the physical, mental and social wellbeing of Abu Dhabi’s population by raising public and preventative healthcare awareness, announced that HE Matar Saeed Rashed Al Nuaimi, Director General of ADPHC was honoured by His Excellency Patrick Moody, Her Majesty’s Ambassador in the UAE, for the Centre’s successful conclusion of the Development of Women’s Leadership Skills in the Health Sector programme conducted by the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UK HSA).
Taking place at Arab Health 2022, the largest healthcare exhibition and congress in the Mena region, the ceremony commemorated ADPHC and UK HSA’s participation in the programme dedicated to supporting the development of an empowered cadre of female leaders in the sector.
The programme, conducted over 4 days, saw 27 experts from ADPHC participate in a series of lectures led by the UK HSA covering leadership skills and healthcare concepts and models that can be used in day-to-day leadership practices.
Commenting on the programme and ceremony, H.E. Matar Saeed Rashed Al Nuaimi, Director General of ADPHC, said: “Female colleagues have played an integral role in the UAE’s healthcare sector and have greatly contributed to the wellbeing of society. As part of our commitment to enhancing the health of our community by bolstering public health efforts and initiatives, we must continue to ensure we have the right knowledge, skills and expertise to advance our efforts in supporting Abu Dhabi’s healthcare ambitions. Our collaboration with the United Kingdom Health Security Agency enabled us to leverage expertise and exchange knowledge to ensure greater diversity and female representation in the sector at a leadership level.”
The programme covered various topics including personal and team management, collaboration, using and developing technologies and problem solving. Delivered across five modules, the lectures provided useful information on understanding women’s contribution to the work systems they operate in, adaptive leadership, developing personal values and beliefs, and leaders’ role in driving, promoting, and managing change as well as working in complex environments.
His Excellency, Patrick Moody, Her Majesty’s Ambassador in the UAE, said: “I am delighted to have supported the launch of a leadership skills course aimed at Enhancing Women’s Leadership Skills, a programme co-developed by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center and Public Health England, now called the UK Health Security Agency. What is clear is that despite the global challenges, both organisations have worked hard to produce a bespoke world-class course, signifying the strong bilateral relationship.”
The UK Health Security Agency is responsible for protecting members of every community from the impact of infectious diseases, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear incidents and other health threats. It provides intellectual, scientific, and operational leadership at national and local level, as well as on the global stage.
Consistently ranked as one of the leading countries for gender equality in the region by the World Economic Forum, the UAE has actively championed gender equality as a national priority. The country is now ranked first regionally for female empowerment on the UN Gender Equality Index, and 18th globally.
